WELCOME TO PAULETTE SMITH MIDDLE SCHOOL
Middle School Receives Awards
Paulette Smith Middle has been recognized by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas as a school where students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire! The OEP creates an annual report entitled the Outstanding Educational Performance Awards, and this year we are recognizing schools with high student growth. We think growth is the best indicator of the positive impact that your school is having on students.

Debate: 6th graders debating the ban of the use of fossil fuels in the year 2030.
MS SCIENCE ACTIVITIES: Recently, 7th and 8th grades participated in STEM challenges. In one challenge they were to make the tallest free-standing tower out of index cards. The tallest was 9 stories tall. In another challenge, they were to make the longest paper chain out of only one piece of paper. The 7th grade class was the overall winner. Currently, 7th grade is learning about simple and complex molecules by creating models, which show us the type and number of atoms in a molecule.
One weekly STEM activity: properties of matter & measurement - create the largest table bubble, measure diameter of the bubble print as evidence. Challenge winners tied at 15 inches!
6th Grade Science studied energy transfer and insulation. As part of learning about conduction, reflection, and insulation students designed a device that would use reflection, conduction and insulation properties to cook a s'more. We designed solar ovens. All outside pics are of our solar oven project . Our test recipe was s'mores. The classroom picture is of their groups collaborating on design.
Great job students!
